At first I thought this were older pics...but no – she looks as good as over 10 years ago...and she is outclassing most women that are 10 or 15 years younger than she is.

Another thought: Maybe this new hairstyle means that a new movie is about to be shot...

WINONA – 20 YEARS IN ACTING

It was the 28th March of the year 1986 – a day generally not much to remember I suppose – if not for all the births, marriages, tests and exams taken that makes it special for one or another...

But unlike many other days some days turn the world "out of sync"...

Around one year before a "Camera! Lights!...Action!!!" was yelled on a set of a teenager movie that will be called Lucas starring teen-stars Kerri Green and Corey Haim. And – as movie poeple put it – "Magic Time" – the first scene for a new movie was filmed...

Most poeple involved in this movie were not intending to get the world spin out of balance a little. But around the same time some other creative poeple who had been around for nearly 20 years were in big business now – and they also didn't tought about making something special in 1966 – that would call itself Star Trek – and they were now shooting the fourth movie...

But back to this teenage movie – also starring Charlie Sheen and Courtney Thorne-Smith – names that will become widely known in the years to come.

And then there was another young thirteen year old actress on the set. Very nervous and shy – always looking straight into the camera – and not at her co-actors. And she has just chosen her new stage name: Ryder.

Back to March 1986: Lucas premiered – it was one of the better teenage movies this year. But one actress made an impression – natural acting...and magnificent eyes that make you think you will drown in them: Winona Ryder.

And a guy named Tim Burton full of wild movie ideas was also in the audience...making plans of his own when he saw this raw diamond...

This looks like a fairy tale, isn't it?...(-;

And I'm really sure not everything evolved in the way I've laid it out here...but it captures the general idea...(-:

I hope you enjoy this page...and celebrate 20 years of Winona in acting!

the rise

Beetlejuice and Great Balls Of Fire – these two movies rocketed Winona into Hollywood. Gladly she doesn't loose ground contact and choosed a good mix of witty comedies (Heathers,Mermaids), good dramas (House Of Spirits, Age Of Innocence) and independent projects (Reality Bites, Looking For Richard, Night On Earth).

the golden age

The years 1996-2000 marked for me – until now – the golden age of Winona. Great movies (The Crucible, Alien 4, Girl, Interrupted, Autumn in New York - yes I really like this movie!), adding to her profile with her charities (Polly Klaas Foundation, Native American College Fund) and a better look than ever.

Why Winona didn't get at least an Academy Award nomination for The Crucible and Girl, Interrupted is beyond me until today...

the winona most poeple don't know

At the time Winona was also very active in various fields other than acting.

First she always quite active behind the scenes. She was excecutive producer on Girl, Interrupted – a position she choosed to ensure the intergrity and message of the novel. And she was co-producer on The Day My God Died – where she made sure that this movie with an importnat message made it onto the screen. But even on the following movies she made them hit the screen – even if she had no official "producer" credit of any sort: Dracula,Little Women, Alien: Ressurection.

Second Winona became involved in charities – most prominent in the Polly Klaas Foundation. And – what makes her special – she's not only talking but is giving good amounts of money.

Third in this time she also did her only audio-novel to date The Diary of a Young Girl. A great set where Winona finally proves what agreat narrating voice she has. She gives the sad and sometimes funny diary of Anne Frank such a heartfelt center that you laugh and cry with her – Winona was nominated for a Grammy that year.

the trial

I don't want to add to the ongoing discussion if Winona really shoplifted.

I just have to comment on the american legal system that is placing the judgement into the hands of poeple who have no clue whatsoever of laws and professional law enforcement – meaning the Jury. It's like I as IT specialist should judge the work of a car mechanic – I simply can't.

If she really did it she got through it bravely – though it was a hard time for me watching how the press bashed her every day.

And she lost many movie projects because she was not allowed to leave the US for a long time – and this was in my opinion more devastating to her career than the rest of the verdict.

the press

Winona and the press – a mixed emotion relationship. At her side when suceeding – beating her on even small faults. Winona once commented that the press would only write about Polly Klaas when she would make an interview: "That's pathetic!"

the paparazzi

The paparazzi belong to showbiz like the vacuum to space. But sometimes these poeple get really disgusting. For me it's mixed emotions – on the one hand I love to see every picture of winona I could get – on the other hand I'm often ashamed after watching when I realize Winona is hunted and is looking as if she's really angry...

Here I've choosen a small number of pics that are in my opinion not as intrusive as many others...

the comeback

Two movies are up during the next 12 months: A Scanner Darkly and The Darwin Awards. And more surely to come after them.

Many poeple in the press still want to see her fail – still talking about that her last movies were flops. That's simply not true – GI and AINY ran in europe and Asia better then in the US. And adding the DVD sales and TV rights these movies made their money. And Deeds was the movie with the biggest box-office Winona ever made...

And after seeing pictures from the latest Vanity Fair and Marc Jacobs show, and showing up with West Memphis Three and the ONE campaign – I'm more than sure that this tough beauty will make it...

the undiscovered country - the future

for now the future holds two new movies to be released within the next 12 months. The reviews of Darwin Awards are mixed at best – I still hope this is some weird comedy the americans don't understand... On the other hand the reviews of A Scanner Darkly are all very good – not only about the movie in general but about winona's acting in special.

After that we can only hope – for more movies – and that the audience would accept them...

I also hope Winona will have children – she often said and showed that she likes them more than anything else. Even if this would mean that she would stop working for some years...

And then of course: The Academy Award for Lifetime Achievment – but I think there is a few centuries time for this...

why do I like Winona?

Affection is always growing slow in me. The first movie I watched was Beetlejuice – I was 13 at the time – but I still noticed this witty and funny girl in this movie.

Later on I watched nearly every movie – but I became a fan in 2000 – Girl, Interrupted. After seeing it I just thought "WOW! WOW! WOW! What a woman!". And I meant that on all acounts: acting talent – beauty – intelligence. And I started collecting pictures and articles from the net.

Then came the trial. And after seeing and reading all the crap and lies were told about Winona I started my webpage – In a small attempt to show everyone what Winona really is like – as far that I could find out...
