The Story:
Valedictorian Lelaina Pierce just got out of school into real life. She got a job at the boring morning show of the even more boring and unfriendly Grant Gubler....
Lelaina works in private and at her job on her documentary about her friends and life after school named „Reality Bites“. After an argument with Grant she got fired...
Meanwhile after an car-incident with „In Your Face TV“ excecutive Michael she dated him and he wants to broadcast her documentary on his network...
And Michael wants her heart...but didn't she loves Troy...
My Opinion:
As I also graduated in 1994 i just love this movie...to watch it today is like time-travelling back...a great time piece...
One of my favourite scenes is where Lelaina and company are at the gas-station...buying goods on dads gas-station credit-card. And then „My Sharona“ plays on the radio...
The title says it all: Reality Bites...

[...] Should she stick with the nice, sensible guy who treats her well (Ben Stiller), or should she roll the dice with the frustrating boho bozo who treats her like crap (Ethan Hawke)? For a detached adult, the answer seems obvious; for poeple who were twenty-one when this move comes out, the answer was just as obvious but completely different. As we all know, Winona went with Hawke. She had to. When Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert reviewed Reality Bites, I recall complaining that Ryder picked the wrong guy; as far as I could tell, choosing the wrong guy was the whole point. [...] Winona made the kind of romantic descision most people my age would have made in 1994: She pursued a path that was difficult and depressing, she did so because it showed the slightest potential for trancendence. Not coicindentally this is also the Jedi's path. Adventure? Excitement? The Jedi craves not these things. However, he does crave something greater than the bloodless existence of his father. Quite simply, Winona Ryder is Luke Skywalker - only with a better haircut and a killer rack. |
