The Story:
1969: The USA is still at war with vietnam...the first manned earth-moon shot was succesful...and the hippie movement is at it's maximum...
Collegeboys Raph and Scott trying to fulfill their dream of life in this uneasy times. Scott falls in love with Ralph's sister, Beth...meanwhile he has to solve the problematic relationship with his father Cliff, who is a strong supporter of the war...
My Opinion:
1969 has lots of ideas: antiwar protests, police violence, drug missuse, the hippie movement...and it has everything else that was hip in the 60s: nudist camps, peace speeches, colorful Volkswagen, Neil Armstrong on the moon...
They could've made of every idea a whole movie...but they decided to sqeeze the 60s into just 90 minutes...and failed. Everything is passing by so fast...no time to reflect things...to catch the magic of this era...like marking entries on a checklist.
The most noteable perfomance was done by Robert Downey, jr. Winona acts bravely in this fast tour of the 60's and has some good scenes.
It has a great soundtrack...
Noni explores the 60s again in her best movie: Girl, Interrupted.
